Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Overview
After more than 50 years of research and development, the current Myers-Briggs Type Indicator has become the most widely used instrument for understanding normal personality differences. Because it explains basic patters in human functioning, the MBTI serves a wide variety of purposes, including the following:
- Improving performance of the individual and the team
- Developing leaders within the ranks
- Reducing conflict among peers and throughout the hierarchy
- Self awareness and development
- Organizational development
- Team building
- Problem solving
- Diversity and multicultural training
This widely respected tool reveals an individual’s preferences for communication, data gathering, decision making and energy flow, which permits you and your team to achieve greater effectiveness and harmony in the office. The MBTI is administered more than 2 million times each year in the United States.
Through half- or full-day workshops or individual coaching, we can give you the tools to increase your self-awareness and adaptability. Customized workshops are available to focus on specific applications, such as:
| Communication | Team Building | Leadership Development |
| Change Management | Stress Management | Time Management |
| Problem Solving | Career Development | Sales |
| Diversity Awareness | Conflict Resolution | Coaching |
Myers-Briggs based retreats and workshops focus on helping each person learn about their own personal preferences in four key areas and the preferences of those they work closely with to facilitate better communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, leadership development, and more. The overall objectives of an MBTI-based workshop or retreat may include:
1. To help each person better understand their own personality preferences for communication, data gathering, decision making, and energy flow.
2. To help the collective team better understand the overall team style and preferences.
3. To help each person understand how their personality preferences play a key role in developing their own management style.
Fun and engaging interactive activities are a key element to demonstrating these similarities and differences between the various personality types. A binder of workshop materials and resources gives each participant a guidebook to review over and over again once the training is completed.
The MBTI tool specifically aids team members by:
- Fostering openness and truth
- Providing a neutral and affirmative language with which to discuss differences
- Underscoring the value of diversity
- Teaching team members to value and work with strengths of others
- Helping increase productivity by aligning an individual’s MBTI preferences to particular team tasks
- Identifying team assets and blind spots
How our approach differs from others
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is most effective in organizations when a true implementation plan is laid out for the team to utilize what they learned in the introductory workshop when they return to their desks. Our approach combines the self-validation process of an introductory workshop with activities and exercises you can use after the workshop to keep personality type awareness alive on your team.
With two experienced and credentialed workshop facilitators who are personality type opposites, your team will see and hear the best of each personality preference in an entirely new way.
Here’s what some of our past workshop attendees have said about our sessions:
“Presenters were enthusiastic. I felt they loved presenting this information.”
“Outstanding job by the presenters. I would also definitely recommend
you to my employer to do a session for our managers.”
“I enjoyed two speakers doing the presenting. It makes it very interesting.”
“Loved having the handouts prepared and very organized.”
“What I found most valuable was determining my type, and being able to laugh at myself.”
